First there is Lumley beach - the beach in Freetown situated in Aberdeen close to a lot of local restaurants and nightclubs. This is also a great place to buy presents to take home with you as there are numerous beach sellers along the beach road. The beaches along the peninsular are secluded and become more picturesque the further you venture down the peninsular road.

Further on you will find Lakka beach – with a selection of restaurants on the beach front.

Lakka Beach Lakka Beach

About 30 minutes further you will find River number 2 beach. This is a very popular spot at weekends so if you want the place to yourself it is best to go during the week. Here you can either relax on the river or take a canoe up the river to the waterfall.

Another 20 minutes further along the road you will come to Tokeh beach – the beach is about 2km long starting at Number 2 river running all the way down to Tokeh river.

Boat at Lakka

The next place of interest on the peninsular is Whale bay – but this is somewhere that is difficult to find without a guide – there is no beach here just a waterfall and a sea water inlet perfect for fishing.

You can also visit Bureh Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Freetown peninsula.

Other than the peninsular you can take a trip over the mountains to the Tacugama Chimp Sanctuary or to Charlotte village where you can ask one of the villagers to guide you to the waterfall – the best time of year to visit the falls is during the rains as you will be able to experience the full force of the water.
